Divisions & Units
Our department is made up of several key divisions and units. The following is a list of the divisions with a brief summary of their roles.
Patrol
The Patrol Division is the most highly visible component of the department. The officers on patrol deliver dedicated service to the campus twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. The Patrol Division includes the bicycle and motorcycle units.
Crime Prevention
The Crime Prevention Unit within the Georgia Tech Police Department engages the campus community in order to reduce crime and create a safer environment. We offer a range of services to educate students, faculty, and staff, on safety and awareness.
Criminal Investigations
The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the preliminary investigation of crimes against persons and property, Lost and Found Property and Evidence.
Emergency Preparedness
Emergency Preparedness operates as a division of the Georgia Tech Police Department and is dedicated to preparing for and responding to emergencies that occur on campus.
Physical Security
Physical Security is an integral part of Crime Prevention. Physical Security is the physical measures designed to safeguard personnel, to prevent unauthorized access to Georgia Tech facilities, and to protect Georgia Tech against theft and vandalism. Administrative Services
The Administrative Services Division consists of Records, Training Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Fleet Management.
Special Events
Special Events Unit is responsible for all planning, coordinating, directing, and managing all special events at the Institute requiring police personnel and comprised of the K-9 Unit.
Accreditation Office
The Accreditation Office is responsible for preparing the Department for accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). As a closely related function, the office also maintains the Department's written directives.
Security Card Access System
The Security Card Access System (SCAS) is a campus-wide system that allows people to use their Buzz Card to access various buildings on campus.
IT
The IT division maintains servers and systems that are essential for the department to run effectively and efficiently.
