Welcome to the Georgia Tech Police Department Training Division!

Training serves as one of the most important roles within the department. We develop and train our current in-service members and civilians, and prepare recruits to become proud officers of the Georgia Tech Police Department.

To remain at the forefront of police training in the 21st century, the Training Division continually reevaluates standards and best practices. The Professional Development Unit focuses on specialized training, which includes Professional Policing and Procedural Justice, along with courses in career and leadership development.

The Training Division is comprised of the Professional Development Unit and Basic Recruit Staff. These highly skilled individuals work collaboratively to provide the highest level of training to ensure professional excellence, police legitimacy, and effective policing.

Individuals who wish to pursue a career in law enforcement must be accepted as a recruit into the Basic Recruit Training Course. This Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) mandated course has been thoughtfully designed to offer each recruit a platform to succeed. The Training Division often works with new employees for enrollment in this course.

The Georgia Tech Police Department is proud to go beyond the POST-mandated minimum requirements by adding classroom and field training uniquely tailored to the Georgia Tech campus. This additional training is designed to promote productive and respectful relationships with the community. These topics include but are not limited to Implicit Bias Training, De-escalation and Crisis Intervention tactics, and Community Engagement.

We welcome prospective recruits who desire to serve and protect the Georgia Tech campus population under the principles of law, justice, and our commitment to providing safety with respect for all.
